Heavy, tobacco-bodied and amber-winged hawker, often seen gliding majestically down forest glades or high over woodland lakes. A mere glimpse is often sufficient for a positive identification.

Total: 70-77 mm.
Abdomen: 49-60 mm.
Hindwing: 41-49 mm.

Habitat

Breeds in a wide range of calm waters, usually with rich bankside or submerged vegetation, such as abandoned canals and oxbows. Adults often seen in forested areas.

Flight Season

From late May to early October. Most abundant at the end of July and in August.

Range and Status

Common in Denmark.
