Dragonfly Season 2026 Has Begun

I started this year’s dragonfly season a little late, visiting my local spot at the end of May.

The weather was really sunny and warm in April, but that was a little too early for dragonfly spotting. It then changed for the worse, but the second half of May saw an early arrival of summer.

Many species had already emerged like Pyrrhosoma nymphula, Cordulia aenea, Brachytron pratense, Coenagrion pulchellum, Libellula quadrimaculata and Libellula depressa. On my second trio I also spotted a newly emerged Aeshna isoceles.
