Photographing Ophiogomphus cecilia

Late summer has been really good in Denmark this year with many warm and sunny days.

Last week I took advantage of this and drove to a for me familiar location, but one I haven’t visited for several years. It’s right next to the river Gudenåen and a known habitat of a relatively rare species of dragonfly in Denmark named Ophiogomphus cecilia.

I have always been especially fond of this species mainly due to its appearance, with its beautiful green, yellow and black color patterns. It is also not that difficult to photograph if you are approaching slowly with no sudden moves.

I was lucky to spot several specimens at this location and also get some good shots which have now been added to the gallery.
