Photos of New Species Added to the Gallery

It rarely happens but today I was lucky to spot and photograph a to me new dragonfly species: Crocothemis erythraea

There are still several species which I have not been able to photograph yet either because they are very rare here in Denmark or because their habitats are located far from where I live, so it is kind of a speciel feeling when I am finally able to tick a new one off.

During the past week several findings of Crocothemis erythraea were reported at a lake very close to where I live, so I drove by a couple of times without any luck, but third time is the charm as I finally found and photographed it today.

I was actually about to give up and drive home after yet another fruitless walk around the lake, but just before leaving I spotted a red dragonfly in the tall grass which didn’t look like the much more common Sympetrum sanguineum. Conditions weren’t the best, late in the day, low sun and slightly cloudy, but I managed to get a few good shots which have been added to the gallery.
