Often occurs with Lestes sponsa, with which it is easily confused. Typically occurs in lower numbers, but can be more abundant in sites that are seasonally wet.
Size
Total: 35-40 mm.
Abdomen: 26-33 mm.
Hindwing: 20-25 mm.
Habitat
A wide variety of still waters, which typically dry out in the course of the summer or have shallow borders providing warm micro-habitats for the larvae. Sites usually have dense growths of rushes or sedges, e.g. dune lakes, reedy shallows, small meadow ponds or edges of bogs.
Flight Season
From late May to September. Most abundant in July and August.
Range and Status
Common in Denmark.
