This large red damsel is the first sign of spring in much of our area, being the only Pyrrhosoma present in north-west Africa, Turkey and most of Europe.
Size
Total: 33-36 mm.
Abdomen: 25-30 mm.
Hindwing: 19-24 mm.
Habitat
Wide range of waters, with the highest abundance in well-vegetated, standing water.
Flight Season
From April to August. Most abundant in May and June.
Range and Status
Common in Denmark.
