One of the most familiar, widespread and abundant odonates in Europe, well-known from eutrophic habitats and garden ponds.

Abdomen: 22-29 mm.
Hindwing: 14-21 mm.
Abundant at running and especially standing waters. Tolerant of some salinity but avoids acid habitats such as Sphagnum bogs.
Late April to late September.
